Curing My Hair Nightmares: Nature Spell Rosemary Oil & Batana Oil Review

This was me, July 2016, as a 20 year old teaching assistant with insane hair. I had been bleaching, using box dye, and aggressively straightening my hair for 2 years. This would be the beginnings of 9 years worth of frizzy and matted hair in the making.

This was me in May 2022, the last time I had freshly bleached hair. As usual, it was amazing for the first week or so but it would only take a few days before looking FRAZZLED!

This was also me in May 2022, only 1 week after bleaching and already struggling with matted and frizzy hair.

This was me, July 2022 with heat curled hair. The heat and products helped to manage the frizz temporarily, but the next morning was a nightmare to brush through from all the matted frizz that had accumulated overnight.

I spent the next 3 years committed to plaits, pony tails and slick back buns to grow out my frazzled bleached hair.

This is me January 2024, my hair had grown exponentially! At this stage of hair care, the only thing that had changed in the last 6 months was how I washed it. Due to the thickness of my hair, I started to wash in halved sections to make sure the shampoo products were washed out properly. I also used a scalp massager for 2-3 mins every wash day and my hair, despite being damaged, continued to grow and grow!

This is me May 2024, my hair was still growing along with the frizz and was becoming difficult to manage - I had no clue how to style it? I didn’t want to think of how I would style frizzy, short hair… so I kept it long with an occasional trim off the ends.

This is me May 2025 after my first proper cut in 3 years! It felt amazing to finally run my fingers through my hair without it getting caught in matted nests! The literal weight that had left my head was amazing. I stretch my neck just thinking about it.

May 2025 - Despite cutting off the bleached ends, I found that my hair was still very frizzy.

After some TikTok research, I could finally put a name to it - I have high porosity hair. This is when the hair cuticle has gaps, meaning that moisture escapes easily (hence the frazzled hair). To help put some moisture back into the cuticle, I’m using the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo and Conditioner which was recommended to help reduce dryness/ frizziness.

25th July 2025, I gave myself a DIY trim for my graduation. This was my attempt to remove some of those last annoying bits of bleached hair to try and reduce as much frizz on the day. The end result was some messy waves which were cute, but this was not representative of the painful hours spent washing, styling & drying my hair. The shampoo & conditioner alone was not going to cut it… not after nearly 10 years of damage! And so begun my hair oiling journey.

I’ve now used the Natural Rosemary Hair Oil and Natural Batana Oil twice this week, and it has honestly changed my hair. TikTok research suggested pouring 0.5 ounces of each oil into the bottle which I focused on my roots and put whatever was left on my ends. After washing this out I found that I could probably do with doubling this based on the thickness of my hair.

This is me, August 2025, after my 2nd hair oil treatment with the Nature Spell Rosemary oil and Batana oil mix. I used 1 ounce of each oil in the bottle to cover the thickness of my hair. The results speak for themselves, I can’t believe how well my waves have clumped together now that the frizz is being treated! I’m so happy, I had no idea my hair could look so healthy!

Aug 2025 - there’s still a lot of frizz but it’s significantly reduced where I can actually work with it. I am so grateful something has finally shown me results as I know the wave clumps will just become more defined as this frizz reduces with the oil treatments!

I’m aiming to do an oil treatment X2 per week for the foreseeable future, using the mix of the Rosemary oil and Batana oil. My hair already feels so much more moisturised and hydrated, and I’m very excited to see what next weeks update brings!
